MPs questioned how far the UK’s climate and nature partnership with Indonesia will go in practice, pressing ministers on peatland protection, deforestation in UK supply chains, support for small farmers and indigenous communities, and funding for conservation. Peers used the G7 statement to push the Government on Ukraine, Sudan, the Middle East and defence, with the sharpest disagreement over how much more Britain should do on military spending, sanctions and Europe. Ministers said UK support for Ukraine would continue, backed a two-state solution and closer co-operation with the EU, and said the delayed UK-EU summit should happen soon, but several questions — including what “long-range capabilities” means for Ukraine and how far the G7 can still shape events — were left open.
