David Lammy said the G7 strengthened support for Ukraine, sanctions on Russia and diplomacy on the Middle East, but MPs challenged him over defence funding, the delayed UK-EU summit, Gaza, Iran and the Strait of Hormuz; he promised a defence investment plan before the NATO summit and confirmed temporary licences for Russian fuel routed through other countries will end on 1 January.

Yvette Cooper said the US remains Britain’s closest security ally and largest trading partner, while acknowledging the UK initially took a different view on the Iran conflict and insisting ministers will work with Washington to keep pressure on Russia, prevent a nuclear-armed Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Ministers said the UK has sanctioned networks linked to Russian information warfare against Ukraine and is working with allies to disrupt hostile online campaigns, but declined to commit to a statutory counter-disinformation centre despite calls from MPs and the Foreign Affairs Committee.
