Peers pressed ministers on whether departments should keep using X after the Attorney General’s office stopped using it, arguing that the platform is still badly affected by abuse, bots and disinformation. The Government said each department should decide for itself whether X is the right way to reach people, noted that paid advertising on the platform has been stopped since April 2023, and said Ofcom and other democracy-protection measures should be used more forcefully if online threats are not being tackled effectively.
