Peers questioned whether NHS diagnosis rates, public awareness and trial capacity are strong enough for emerging dementia drugs, as the Government pointed to £555m in recent research funding, work to restore the 66.7% diagnosis target, a new frailty and dementia framework by year end, and NICE reviews of two Alzheimer’s treatments.

In a petition debate prompted by the case of Stephen Realf, MPs said brain tumour patients still face late diagnosis, limited clinical trials and uneven care, and urged the Government to release the rest of a £40m research pledge; the Minister pointed to new funding, a rare cancers chapter in the national cancer plan and an autumn update on tumour tissue storage.
