In a Westminster Hall debate on a 118,000-signature petition, MPs pressed for more transparency on donations, lobbying, arms contracts and Israeli state contacts, while ministers rejected an Israel-specific inquiry and said foreign influence should be dealt with through wider lobbying and political finance reforms.

Ministers said the Home Office’s first State of Extremism report, due by the end of the year, may name people or groups spreading extremism where necessary and fair, as peers challenged the Government on antisemitism, Prevent, free speech, charity powers, online radicalisation and the need for clear safeguards against profiling or politicised labels.

Peers challenged ministers over whether Ofcom and the Online Safety Act are doing enough to tackle antisemitism, anti-Traveller abuse, algorithmic amplification and crisis disinformation on platforms such as X; the Government said Ofcom is engaging with major platforms, a stronger crisis code will be brought to Parliament, and further action will follow its review of online hate and algorithms.

Peers questioned whether government action is strong enough to tackle rising antisemitism, especially on social media and in education, as ministers pointed to the Online Safety Act, security funding, £7m for schools and universities, and a promised response to Sir David Bell’s review.
