Ministers defend HS2 consultant spending as peers question the line’s cost and future
The Government said HS2 Ltd spent £77.8m on consultants in 2025-26 to reset a badly managed project, with costs now estimated at £87.7bn to £102.7bn and full completion not expected until 2040-43; peers challenged the value of the spending, whether HS2 should still go ahead, and what will happen to routes north of Birmingham.
