Myanmar human rights crisis: MPs press for tougher sanctions and continued aid
MPs called for stronger UK action after Myanmar’s 2021 military coup, arguing that airstrikes, detention, torture, sexual violence and persecution of the Rohingya and other communities have worsened. Ministers said the UK would keep providing more than £80 million a year in aid, back accountability and targeted sanctions, and work through the UN and regional partners, but pressure remained for further sanctions on military-linked businesses and banks.
