Church of England clergy discipline system overhauled to speed up complaints and strengthen safeguards
MPs discussed a Measure to replace the Church of England’s outdated clergy conduct process with a faster, clearer system that is meant to be fairer for both complainants and clergy, with public hearings, stronger safeguarding and no time limit for serious misconduct cases. The main point of agreement was that lower-level complaints should be handled more locally where possible, while protecting against unreasonable or repeated allegations.
