Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026
MPs welcomed the return of the Commonwealth Games to Glasgow, but pressed on the loss of free-to-air live coverage, disruption around venues such as George Square and Scotstoun, and whether the event will leave a real legacy for grassroots sport, young people and local communities. Ministers said the UK Government helped secure the Games and that the smaller, more sustainable model will bring sporting, economic and social benefits, while also condemning racism and violence in Glasgow after disorder near the city centre and mosque.
