UK nuclear safeguards are updated after Brexit, with ministers promising simpler rules and stronger enforcement
Peers backed changes to the civil nuclear safeguards regime that checks nuclear material is not diverted for military use, but pressed for assurances on enforcement, record-keeping and burdens on smaller operators. The regulations remove leftover Euratom transition rules, shift reporting to International Atomic Energy Agency formats, tighten deadlines and update fees, while the minister said operators have been given time to adapt and that legislation on the Fingleton review will come later in this Session.
