Government seeks to extend clean air zone charging and double the central fee
MPs debated draft regulations that would keep councils paying for the clean air zones website until 2031 and raise the charge from £2 to £4 a transaction. Ministers said the change is needed to keep the system running and support cleaner air, while Conservatives and some others argued it would add costs to motorists and councils; the Government said councils should not pass the fee on and that it would cover any shortfall.
